Local first responders to benefit from Georgia’s PTSD legislation

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Law enforcement, dispatchers, and other first responders are now entitled to a valuable new benefit thanks to Georgia House Bill 451. If diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) while on the job, these benefits will help pay medical bills not covered by insurance.

The people we spoke with were excited to hear about this new program. Some say as first responders, they never know what situation they will deal with on a day-to-day basis.

“Mental health has always been kind of pushed to the side and it’s always been a stigma that if you’re having trouble mentally you might be a weaker person for it,” said Captain Greg Garner with Columbus Fire & EMS…
