San Francisco seems to have figured out how to build cheaper toilets.
In 2022, San Franciscans were scandalized over the astronomical cost of a simple restroom in Noe Valley after city officials estimated it would cost $1.7 million for one commode. Now officials say they’re able to build one toilet in Bernal Heights’ Precita Park for $262,000 — a huge savings. Officials said the project timeline will also be significantly reduced, shrinking from roughly 17 months to just nine.
The Noe Valley toilet eventually cost the city $200,000 after a company offered to donate a prefabricated restroom and some labor, Rec and Park spokesperson Tamara Aparton told the Chronicle…
