DeKalb County crews are working around the clock to combat icy conditions caused by today’s winter weather. Crews started preparing roads at midnight and are set to work 16-hour shifts through Saturday morning when conditions are expected to improve.
What’s Happening:
- Roads and Drainage: Staff have responded to 30 ice-related calls. Crews are adding calcium chloride to treatment materials as temperatures drop. Ice was cleared from driveways and parking lots at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. Surrounding cities like Clarkston and Dunwoody have received additional materials.
- Fire Rescue: Teams have handled 164 calls for assistance, including 11 related to ice. Special response vehicles equipped with snow chains are assisting with downed trees and wires.
- Human Services: Shelters have housed 222 homeless individuals, with 79 beds still available. Guests are provided meals and hygiene kits.
