Penzeys Spices latest Stuyvesant Plaza retailer to leave

GUILDERLAND — Penzeys Spices, the upscale chain purveyor of specialty spices and rubs, is closing its Stuyvesant Plaza location, the latest retailer to shut down at the Guilderland shopping center, which is undergoing a major overhaul by its new owners.

About 10 tenants have left or closed their Stuyvesant Plaza locations since Boston-area firm WS Development acquired the outdoor shopping center and office complex.

WS Development is owned by Jeremy Sclar, a well-known Boston real estate developer who has been involved in the creation of the Boston Seaport District and has helped with the redevelopment of the area around Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox. The company acquired a majority interest in Stuyvesant Plaza in 2022 from the Swyer family that built the open-air shopping center in 1959…
