A major interior renovation of century-old Memorial Gymnasium will close the historic structure until the fall of 2026, University of Virginia officials announced Friday.
The work that began in January will include HVAC and utility upgrades, installation of new fire suppression systems, classroom renovations, enhancements of educational and recreational spaces, and accessibility accommodations, including new ADA-compliant restrooms.
Built in 1924, Memorial Gymnasium – or “Mem Gym” to students – needs upgrades to its interior to meet current safety, accessibility and operational standards. Exterior renovations are also in progress…
