Virginia State Police respond to 160 incidents amid latest winter storm

RICHMOND, Va. (7News) — The number of car crashes has been on the rise since last night’s snowfall.

At 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, Virginia State Police reported that they responded to approximately 160 traffic incidents and over 40 crashes. By noon, that number had jumped to over 400 incidents and nearly 100 (94) crashes state-wide.

As of noon on Saturday, these are the following reported crashes:

  • Fairfax has reported 4 crashes.
  • Culpeper has reported 6 crashes.
  • Chesapeake reported 37 crashes.
  • Richmond reported 28 crashes.
  • Appomattox reported 9 crashes.
  • Wytheville reported 4 crashes
  • Salem reported 6 crashes.

In response to the hazardous conditions, Virginia State Police have increased their presence on the roads and continue to urge drivers to stay off the roads during the storm.

For those who must drive, authorities recommend using headlights to increase visibility, slowing down to allow more time to react, avoiding tailgating to ensure increased stopping distance, and always wearing a seat belt. Drivers are also advised to check their vehicles to ensure they are in good working order and in good working condition…
