Hiland, Triway lock horns in a physical and tough battle

WOOSTER — It was physical, at times it got sloppy. But in the end, Hiland earned a tough 57-37 road win in a fierce environment against Triway. Making it more difficult for the Hawks, it was dedication night for the Titans new gym. They dedicated the court to Carmichael Court and the gym, Miller Family Arena and had both families present.

“It was an honor for us to be the game where they dedicated everything,” said Hiland coach Mark Schlabach, who has personal ties to both families. “We’ve got a lot of good relationships with the Triway community. The Pit was a great place for them, it wasn’t such a great place for opposing teams all the time, but this new gym is great and it’s a really great environment.”

Still, it was the Hawks who came out rolling and stacked up a 31-19 halftime lead without their standout Nick Wigton for good parts of it. In foul trouble, Wigton finished with eight points. But Hiland saw seven different players score with Alex Miller (18) and Sam Wengerd (13) leading the way…
