TORRINGTON — Safety was a major factor in planning and building the Municipal Riverview Parking Lot and extension of the Sue Grossman Still River Greenway , Mayor Elinor C. Carbone said after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site behind the Torrington Library.
“We are trying to create an environment that makes it safe and comfortable and convenient. So that’s the big takeaway of today,” Carbone said at the event in Torrington on Friday, Jan. 10.
The parking lot “was a sea of pavement before this,” Carbone said. “You were literally just crossing the parking lot through parking spaces. Now you have designated crosswalks. You have these refuge places where the green landscaping is. So that’s the other part of the safety component.”…
