Monroe PD issue warrants in 2016 cold case murder of a 59-year-old Monroe man

MONROE, GA (Jan. 10, 2025) – The Monroe Police announced last week that, in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), there has been a significant development in the longstanding cold homicide investigation into the death of Anthony Myron Sims, 59, of Monroe. Sims was found dead in his apartment on Nov. 20, 2016. His body was discovered when police responded after a neighbor noticed a bedroom window at the duplex at 525 Baron Drive had been pushed in.

“After years of tireless work and recent breakthroughs in the case, law enforcement has secured an arrest warrant for Quamell Lamonte Sanders, 29 years old, now charged with the murder of Anthony Myron Sims. Saunders is also charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, and theft by taking,” MPD announced. “The case, which has remained unsolved since 2016, saw renewed attention through the combined efforts of local and state investigators, advanced forensic techniques, and the community’s cooperation.This development reinforces our commitment to solving even the most challenging cases, no matter how much time has passed.”…
