PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Yale women’s basketball team withstood a 9-0 run by Brown in the second quarter Saturday at the Pizzitola Center, eventually building a six-point lead in the third quarter. But the Bears had a response in the back-and-forth battle, ending the third with a three-pointer that was part of a 7-0 run to re-take the lead at 49-48. Yale momentarily went back ahead on a jumper by senior guard/forward Mackenzie Egger at 9:35 of the fourth – part of a 23 point day for her. But the Bears outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 within the next three minutes and went on to finish off a 77-69 win.
Yale (1-14, 0-2 Ivy League) led 16-12 after the first. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as eight in the second quarter but went on a 10-1 run at the end of that quarter to take a 30-29 lead into halftime.
Brown (7-8, 1-1 Ivy League) wound up outscoring Yale 48-39 in the second half to pull out the win. Guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears with 35 points, shooting 10-for-20…
