U.S. searches for 600 workers owed part of $132K from South Carolina farm’s violations

RIDGE SPRING, S.C. — The U.S. Department of Labor has recovered thousands of dollars from a South Carolina farm that describes itself as the largest peach grower on the East Coast. Now, authorities are looking for roughly 600 temporary workers who are owed a share of the remaining money.

The Department of Labor announced that the workers are entitled to a share of about $132,000, which was recovered from Titan Fruit & Vegetable Co. Inc. near Ridge Spring after the company was accused of violating H-2A program regulations. H-2A is designed to help farmers recruit workers to harvest crops.

“In return, employers have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that all workers who come legally to the U.S. under the H-2A program are paid fairly and comply with other regulations,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Jamie Benefiel…
