How being snowed in can take a toll on mental health: Kentucky professor shares perspective

“Being cooped up during inclement weather can absolutely affect your mental health,” said Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala, a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Kentucky.

The American Psychiatric Association found that 38% of Americans say their mood declines in the winter months.

“It can also cause some problems in terms of being out of our routine. That can leave us feeling kind of unmotivated, kind of draggy, sometimes a little out of control because we don’t really know what to do with ourselves,” said Dr. Sauer-Zavala…
