US Passport Loses Global Power
According to the Henley Passport Index, the US passport has fallen in ranking to ninth place. In 2014, it held the top spot but has since slipped.
The index ranks passports based on visa-free access to 227 destinations. The US passport now allows travel to 186 countries without a visa.
Singapore Leads the Way
Singapore holds the top spot in the index, with access to 195 destinations visa-free. Japan and six European countries share the second and third positions.
Impact of Passport Strength
A strong passport offers greater travel freedom and convenience by eliminating the need for visa applications.
Bottom of the List
Countries with weaker passports include Nepal, Somalia, and Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s passport only grants visa-free access to 26 destinations, significantly less than Singapore’s 195.
