STAMFORD — Barring an objection from the mayor, it’s no longer legal to drink alcohol on Stamford’s sidewalks.
The Stamford Board of Representatives unanimously voted to make permanent a ban on drinking alcohol on city sidewalks after a temporary measure expired Dec. 10. The vote was held Jan. 6 after a public hearing during a Dec. 16 meeting of the Public Safety and Health Committee included a number of residents who were in support of extending it. The ban is now in the hands of Mayor Caroline Simmons.
The ordinance made permanent a temporary ban the Board of Representatives voted to put into effect in May 2023 and then extended for six months in June 2024. The rules were temporary so the city could test them before making them permanent, according to discussions by the board in April last year…
