Gladwin beat Meridian 45-33 in a hard-fought Jack Pine Conference boys’ basketball game on Monday.
The Flying G’s were up 9-7 after the first quarter, then outscored the Mustangs 13-7 in the second to make it 22-14 at halftime. Meridian had a 10-9 edge in the third quarter to cut it to 31-24, but Gladwin outscored MHS 14-9 in the fourth to clinch it.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we found a way to keep Meridian at bay nearly wire to wire,” said Gladwin coach Mike Verellen. “We struggled to score for much of this game. We just haven’t knocked down open shots like we were before the (Christmas) break…
