3 new charter schools approved for Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Three charter schools are now approved to operate in Davenport. The Iowa Department of Education made the decision Thursday, including two other schools in Des Moines and one near Council Bluffs.

There are already seven charter schools across the state; there will be 17 by the end of next year.

Charter schools are fairly similar to traditional public schools. They both receive state funding based on the number of students, and they don’t pick which students are admitted or charge tuition.
