Waterfront Rescue Mission, Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola partner to help homeless people

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A new partnership from Ascension Sacred Heart and Pensacola Waterfront Rescue Mission’s Arukah Respite Center will now have specialty care for homeless individuals transitioning from hospitals to recovery environments.

“Now there’s an option for them to come to the Waterfront Rescue Mission, into the Arukah Respite Center, and actually get healthy, get back on their feet, and then we have the opportunity to then case manage them a little bit more, and find out exactly what is that next step after they get through the Respite program,” said President and CEO of Waterfront Rescue Mission Clay Romano.

Romano said they are in the process of onboarding volunteers from the healthcare field.

“Sometimes you just need someone to sit with these individuals and just, be there for them, be a listening- a sounding board, just listen to their story,” Romano added. “You’d be surprised how much that goes to their health and wellbeing.”…
