Anita Lawler, an Orcutt native who has lived in Altadena for years, said Monday she is grateful for the local firefighters who helped save her home during the devastating Los Angeles-area fires over the last week.
Lawler, who grew up in Orcutt, was moved to recognize firefighters from Santa Maria, Guadalupe and Santa Barbara County among the crews responding to the flames that tore through her neighborhood.
“I was born and raised in Santa Maria, went to Righetti High School, and lived in the Orcutt area,” she said by phone. “I just couldn’t believe that my birth county is here helping me put out our fires. They probably saved a good part of our neighborhood.”…
