COTS opens new warming shelter in downtown Burlington: How it will help the homeless

A new warming shelter is opening this week in downtown Burlington, a highly anticipated venture after weeks of cold weather in the Queen City.

The winter warming shelter is run by the Committee on Temporary Shelter and is located at 58 Pearl St., the former Burlington Social Security Administrative office.

The overnight, low-barrier shelter will have capacity for 30 people and run from Jan. 15 until the end of April. A low-barrier shelter serves a wider variety of individuals, as they remove certain barriers to entry, like housing people who may use drugs while other traditional shelters may not…
