Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered her annual State of the State speech at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on Tuesday. The annual address by the governor sets her priorities for the legislative session and included a multitude of spending proposals that she would like included in the state budget or made priorities in this year’s legislative session. Here are the key takeaways from her speech.

Claps for college, climate

2:30 p.m. Another significantly enthusiastic response to Hochul’s proposal to make community college free for students ages 25-55 who are entering fields like health care and education, which are facing some workforce shortages.

Moments later, Hochul references the wildfires in California and applauds the firefighters and members of the National Guard who are in the disaster zone; everyone in the theater follows her lead.

2:10 p.m. Attorney General Letitia James is the first person in the room to stand up after Hochul says she wants to find a pathway to universal child care. Her lead is quickly followed by others in the room…
