KINGSTON – The City of Kingston has been awarded a $240,000 planning and design grant from the Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities Pilot program to reconfigure Route 9W.
The city will use the money to conduct a feasibility study for reducing the 9W highway from four to two lanes, removing a partial clover interchange, adding Complete Streets features, and adding additional intersections.
Mayor Steven Noble said during the Urban Renewal period, the highway was overbuilt for the city’s traffic needs and created an “unnecessary barrier to connectivity” that they hope can bring now disparate parts of the city back together…
