Downtown Reno sees mixed business climate as closures and new openings shape landscape

Reno, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Two more businesses in downtown Reno are closing their doors, but the closures are not necessarily indicative of a broader trend in the area.

On first day of the 2025, Blind Dog Tavern at First and Sierra streets closed its doors after they said they couldn’t work out an agreement with the landlord. Café , just one block away at First and West streets, announced it will close this Friday, January 17. The owner has a different landlord, but said he too couldn’t work out an agreement.

“We asked to have like certain things done inside the space, like HVAC and that was never installed, so we don’t have heating. So things like that. And like increasing in price,” said owner Brendan Capello…
