‘An open-arm angel’: Central Pa. school guidance counselor suffers brain injury

Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for a guidance counselor at Spring Grove Area High School after she collapsed while on a New Year’s Day run and suffered a significant brain injury, according to a GoFundMe campaign.

Carrie Schmoyer, 50, of West Manchester Township, York County, was walking up her driveway on Jan. 1 when she collapsed for an unknown reason. Her neighbors immediately sprung into action by calling 911 and starting CPR.

According to the GoFundMe, Schmoyer was placed on a ventilator and sedated following the incident. MRI results showed a significant brain injury, but she has since gained enough strength to breathe on her own, the fundraiser said…
