Know-the-foe: Previewing Houston

WVU Hoops looks to make it two in a row on Wednesday night, as the Mountaineers travel to H-town to take on the 10th-ranked Houston Cougars (12-3). Tipoff is set for 8 p.m EST. Let’s take a quick look at everything you need to know about the Cougars ahead of the next contest in the rugged Big 12 for WVU.

COACHING AND THIS YEAR

Houston is led by 11th-year head coach Kelvin Sampson, who’s highly regarded as one of the top coaches in the country. He’s guided the Cougars to a 276-82 (.771) overall record since taking over back in 2014, which includes five conference titles, four 30-plus win seasons, six NCAA Tournament appearances, an Eight Eight and a Final Four (2020-21). He led Houston to the regular season Big 12 title last year despite the Cougars just joining the conference that year, which was arguably his most impressive feat with UH. Sampson also made another Final Four with Oklahoma back in 2002 and he owns an overall head coaching record of 775-353 (.687)…
