Ryan Walters sues Homeland Security, ICE leaders for immigration impacts on Oklahoma schools

Oklahoma state schools Superintendent Ryan Walters is suing the secretary of Homeland Security and the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement deputy director for $474 million in an attempt to “recoup illegal immigration impacts on Oklahoma schools .”

In a news release Tuesday, the superintendent announced that the lawsuit, filed in Oklahoma City federal court, against Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of Homeland Security, and Peter Flores, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deputy director, seeks compensation for the “financial and operational strain” that their border polices have placed on the state’s schools .

The release states that the lawsuit highlights the Biden administration’s “border mismanagement” and the “skyrocketing costs Oklahoma schools face to accommodate an influx of non-citizen students.”
