Some Ohio cities extend hours at warming centers as Arctic air remains

OHIO — While we’ll get a break from the frigid temperatures this weekend, the Arctic air is expected to return next week, and some cities are already preparing by extending hours at warming centers.

Akron

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik announced the city is extending hours at the Summit Lake Community Center at 380 W. Crossier St. starting Sunday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Emergency Overnight Shelter at 111 East Voris St. will close this Thursday and Friday, the mayor said in a post on X, but it will reopen Saturday through Wednesday, 7 p.m. to 8 a.m…
