Frigid weather is nothing new in Vermont. Unfortunately, neither are frostbite and hypothermia, two potentially life-threatening conditions that may occur when people are exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period of time and lose body heat faster than it can be restored.

Frostbite happens when body tissues freeze, most often the extremities. Frostbite can cause permanent damage, and may require amputation in the most severe cases.
