Lubbock city council votes on health improvement plan and animal services at Tuesday’s meeting

LUBBOCK, Texas — City Council held their first meeting of the new year Tuesday afternoon with some controversial agenda items to vote on.

One is agenda item 6.12, to accept the findings of a community Health assessment done in September 2023 and approve the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) to address those findings. With this approval, the health department will be one step closer to being accredited, opening doors for more funding through grants. This passed 6-1.

“We have a budget of about 1.8 million dollars but we get almost four times that in Grant that really give us an expansion to the kind of services where we’re able to provide not with citizens taxpayers money but with grant money that we get,” said Mayor Mark McBrayer…
