FDA bans red dye #3 from foods and medications

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Red dye #3 turns foods and drinks into a bright, cherry red color. But research links it to behavioral problems in children and to cancer.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration officially banned the use of red dye #3 in food and medication.

Sodas, juices, yogurts, candies, sweets, even medications: red dye #3 is in so much that we consume. The FDA says about 200,000 pounds of the dye is used annually…
