FRISCO, Texas — The Frisco Police Department is set to install Flock license plate reading cameras throughout the city to help reduce crime and solve cases. These cameras will capture vehicle images and license plates, alerting officers in real-time when a stolen vehicle or one linked to a wanted suspect is detected, according to the department.
The Flock LPR cameras, already in use in over 5,000 communities nationwide, have been associated with crime reductions of up to 70%, the department noted. The cameras will not be used for traffic enforcement, and images collected will not include people or faces. Data from the system is stored for only 30 days and is not shared with third parties.
Frisco Police Chief David Shilson emphasized the significance of the new system, stating, “The addition of the Flock LPR camera system is a technological game changer for our community.” He expressed gratitude to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicle’s Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority for providing over $437,000 in grant money to fund the system.
