Utah prisons using new facility to process inmate mail

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Prisons are using a new mail screening system to prevent contraband from getting in.

Department of Corrections Assistant Deputy Director, Spencer Turley said this new system sends incoming mail to a processing facility in Las Vegas.

“We’ve been trying to identify a way that we can help reduce the contraband coming in,” said Turkey. “And one of the things that we found is a vendor that acts as a third party to help us process our mail so that we can reduce drugs and other forms of contraband that’s coming into the prison.”…
