On Tuesday, the City Council approved its 2025 Legislative Platform, which will help us continue to look out for Carlsbad’s interests in Sacramento and Washington D.C.
- The legislative platform is updated annually and outlines our positions on a wide variety of issues, ranging from housing to public safety to sustainability, and beyond.
- Having a legislative platform gives us flexibility to move quickly to support, oppose or try to change new bills as they are introduced throughout the year.
- Being able to move quickly is crucial because thousands of bills are introduced in the federal and state governments each year. Last year alone, we monitored close to 2,000 bills.
Once the legislative platform is approved, there are a few ways the city can try to influence proposed legislation.
Take a position: Based on the City Council’s legislative platform, we can support or oppose proposed bills that could affect Carlsbad. This can mean writing letters, making phone calls or meeting with legislators.
Propose changes: The city can try to work with the bill’s author or through legislative committees to make changes so the bill aligns with the legislative platform…
