INSTITUTE, W.Va. –– Local volunteers will donate their time over the next dozen weeks to gather food for local food banks in Kanawha and Putnam Counties. The 44th annual United Food Operation food drive kicked off Friday. It’s a 12 week effort to collect as much non-perishable food as possible to be passed along to the region’s needy.
“We do our pre-planning and get everything together and as we’re talking to the pantries, they’re running out of food. The need is so great we’ve got to keep this going,” said Elaine Harris, UFO Chairperson.
Each Friday through April, the organization will accept donations of food at their warehouse in Institute to be distributed to a dozen food banks across two counties…
