DISCUSSION:
After a lengthy period of temperatures well below freezing, we are now experiencing a potential rise to above-average conditions. Typically, this time of year sees highs around the mid-40s and overnight lows in the upper 20s. However, today’s forecast predicts highs in the upper 40s, with some areas reaching the low 50s, while overnight lows will hover in the upper 30s. Unfortunately, this warmer trend is short-lived, as we will return to normal conditions tomorrow, and by Sunday, temperatures will drop again to the upper 20s with nighttime lows falling into the single digits. This trend is expected to persist, with highs fluctuating between the mid/upper teens and low/mid-twenties until next Thursday.
Beginning tonight, rain picks up and will continue into Saturday. Rain is expected to persist throughout Saturday but will shift to a wintry mix as temperatures decrease. On Sunday, expect further cooling, with precipitation transitioning to snow. Near the Kentucky/Virginia border, the likelihood of snow increases significantly.
LOOKING AHEAD: First Alert Weather Days
As discussed in the discussion section, temperatures are expected to drop significantly as we move into next week. Consequently, the WYMT First Alert Weather Team has declared a First Alert Weather Day from Sunday to Wednesday due to predicted single-digit overnight and morning temperatures. Be prepared for the cold to feel even colder due to the wind chill, affecting your daily activities. Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the day, but our primary concern is during the coldest hours. Make sure to bundle up and stay warm!
Have a great weekend!
