Killeen warming center opens as cold temperatures approach Central Texas

KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen announced Friday that the warming center at the Friends in Crisis shelter will be available to the public beginning on Saturday.

The Friends in Crisis enhanced warming shelter is located at 412 E. Sprott St., and will be open from Saturday, Jan. 18 to Thursday, Jan. 23.

Hours of operation:

  • Saturday, Jan. 18, 8 p.m. to Sunday, Jan. 19, noon
  • Sunday, Jan. 19, 6 p.m. to Wednesday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 22, 8 p.m. to Thursday, Jan. 23, 8 a.m.

According to city policy, warming centers open when the temperature or wind chill factor is forecasted to fall below 32 degrees and the city looks to make decisions before 3 p.m. on the day an overnight center would be opened…
