Quilting group happy to pitch in at Philo fundraiser

PHILO — It’s not just scrumptious food that keeps the pancake and sausage breakfast at Philo’s St. Thomas Catholic School going strong after 58 years. The volunteers are at another level, too.

That includes the St. Mary’s Quilting Group, which each year donates a thing of beauty to help raise money for the eighth-grade class trip. The winning ticket will be announced Sunday during the annual all-you-can-eat fundraiser (7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schumacher Gym) that won’t break the bank ($10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students grades 1-8, free for kindergarten and younger).

Mary LeFaivre, one of a handful of women who gather at St. Mary’s in Pesotum on Wednesday mornings to quilt, knows firsthand the impact of her group’s work.
