LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – As an arctic chill arrives in Southwest Louisiana, some warming centers will open for those to escape the cold.

Allen Parish
Beauregard Parish
DeRidder: At 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, a warming station will open at Soul Soup, located at 801 E. First Street. This facility is not a shelter and is not equipped for overnight stays.
Calcasieu Parish
Lake Charles: A warming center will open at Water’s Edge Gathering (2760 Power Center Parkway) on Sunday, Jan. 19. The City of Lake Charles Transit Division will offer transportation to the warming center from 1-5 p.m. Sunday and again from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. This service will be operational during the stated times provided roadway conditions remain safe for travel.
Those in need of this service should proceed to the bus stop at one of the following locations:
- McDonalds on Ryan Street, across from McNeese State University
- Walmart on Ryan Street
- Fifth Ave and Emerald Point
- SWLA Center for Health Services on Opelousas Street
- Martin Luther King Jr. Center located at North Simmons Street/Fiztenreiter Road
- Prater and Harless streets
- Chateau du Lac located at Ryan and Mill streets
- Mill and Goos streets
- Abraham’s Tent on Fruge Street
- McDonalds on Broad Street
- Salvation Army on Legion Street
- Second Avenue at Golden Arms Apartments
- Walmart on La. 14
- Fifth Avenue and College Street
- Walmart on Nelson Road
- 18th Street near Dollar Tree
- Walmart on Ryan Street
