New Port Richey Police Search for Suspects in $4,000 Camera Store Heist, Owner Assaulted

The New Port Richey Police Department is on the hunt for two male suspects following an armed robbery at Pasco Camera Exchange. The incident, which took place yesterday morning, saw the owner of the store, Jim Smetzer, assaulted and $4,000 worth of camera equipment stolen.

According to a report by WFLA, the burglary occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Smetzer had opened the store not long before two men entered, feigning interest in purchasing a camera. “They said, ‘I’ll take that, and I’ll take that.’ I took a couple things over by the register,” Smetzer recalled. The commotion, escalated when one of the men tried to snatch a camera from the display case.

FOX 13 News reported that the confrontation between Smetzer and the suspects quickly turned physical, resulting in the owner being pushed to the ground and sustaining minor injuries. The theft included a camera and two lenses, with their total value reaching the aforementioned sum of $4,000…
