Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission hosts Ninth Street cleanup with youth athletes

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The community came together on Saturday to clean up a historically cherished neighborhood.

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission partnered with Lil Reds Athletics to host the Historic Ninth Street District Cleanup.

Where to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in central Arkansas

Organizers said that volunteers of all ages arrived at 8 a.m. and worked from 9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

“This cleanup was more than an opportunity to serve,” Arkansas MLK Commission Executive Director DuShun Scarbrough said. “It was a chance to honor the history of the Ninth Street District and foster community pride while making a tangible impact.”

The Historic Ninth Street District once served as a hub for Black-owned businesses, culture and civic engagement.
