WEATHER WARN DAYS: Dangerously Cold Weather and a Winter Storm Threat

Your SKYWATCH Weather Team has issued Weather Warn Days for Monday through Thursday due to a dangerously cold air mass and winter storm threat for Middle Georgia.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Middle Georgia for Sunday night into Monday. This is due to the combination of very cold temperatures and gusty winds, which will lead to wind chill values in the 5-15 degree range.

In fact, wind chill values will be dangerously cold much of this week. Take extra precautions to stay warm and limit time outside with exposed skin.

COLD WEATHER SAFETY: Everyone should continue their cold weather safety involving pipes, pets, home heating, and people. For pipes, insulate, drain, or allow water to drip from the faucet at a trickle for pipes located in exposed or unheated locations. Not all pets can handle cold weather. Bring your pets indoors whenever possible or provide a warm and safe location. For people, dress in layers and minimize exposed skin. Limit time outdoors if not prepared. Check on those without sufficient heating.

In addition to the cold weather, Middle Georgia will have another threat of winter weather precipitation this week. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for all of Middle Georgia. A watch means winter storm conditions which include one or all of the following: two or more inches of snow, half and inch of sleet or more, and more than one-quarter inch of freezing rain, are expected within the next 48 hours. This watch will be increased to a winter storm warning sometime Monday.

The winter storm threat for Middle Georgia will come in the form of snow.
