The end of this month will mark one year since Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed a bill titled Prohibition of Discriminatory Practices in Higher Education and Public Institutions Act into law. Since that time, local universities have been taking steps to comply with the new regulations.
The law was intended to prohibit public colleges and universities from taking certain actions regarding race, color, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or gender identity. Areas affected by the legislation in public universities include admissions, employment decisions, participation in programs and qualification for state financial aid.
