Ohio Department of Development announces availability of $6 million in grants to drive coal innovation across state

The Ohio Department of Development recently announced the availability of $6 million in grant funding dedicated to advancing innovation in coal technologies, fostering economic growth, job creation, and energy sustainability across the state.

The funding is available through the Ohio Coal Research and Development Program, which supports projects aimed at modernizing the use of Ohio coal through innovative technologies and processes such as rare earth element extractions for manufacturing, alternate uses for coal waste, and even the conversion of coal into high-quality materials for housing construction.

“One of our greatest strengths as a state is our ability to adapt and innovate,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “Ohio’s research community has proven time and again that it can drive growth in energy production and sustainability.
