Federal records reveal serious sanitation issues at three Boar’s Head deli meat facilities in New Castle, Indiana; Forrest City, Arkansas; and Petersburg, Virginia. Inspections by the US Department of Agriculture found persistent problems dating back to 2019, including mold on ceilings, floors, and walls, an accumulation of insects, and even patches of unidentified slime.
These revelations echo earlier issues at the now-closed Jarrett, Virginia plant, which was implicated in a deadly listeria outbreak. The safety concerns at the Jarrett facility included a multitude of violations such as leftover meat on equipment, mold buildup, insect infestations near deli meats, and even puddles of blood.
