Gold Jewelry Vanishes from British Airways Plane
A shipment of gold jewelry weighing nearly 20 pounds mysteriously vanished from a British Airways flight while en route from Bahrain to Chicago.
Two employees of Ground Services International (GSI), a company responsible for handling cargo at the airport, have been charged with theft.
British Airways (BA) is now suing GSI for $1.2 million, alleging that the company failed to protect the valuable cargo.
The lawsuit stems from a Bahraini court order requiring BA to compensate the jewelry owner for the missing items. BA has requested compensation from GSI but has not received it.
The airline claims that GSI violated the Standard Ground Handling Agreement by failing to safeguard the cargo and refusing to cover the losses.
A settlement conference is scheduled for February 11th.
