US Marshals deputize officers nationwide ahead of inauguration

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — On Sunday morning, nearly 4,000 police officers from 178 agencies nationwide were deputized for the 60th Presidential Inauguration. The officers who took the oath now have police powers in Washington D.C through Monday.

“They have been deputized under the US Marshals Service,” said DC Police Chief Pamela Smith. “They will be placed in positions where we need them across the city.”

“We were very happy to accept the invitation,” said Major Albert Gosselin with Connecticut State Police. “It’s been 11 months of planning for us to get 35 members of our agency to come down and assist, but we’re very happy to do so.”…
