Elk Grove Police to issue citations around schools in a new way

(FOX40.COM) — Elk Grove Police announced in mid-January that officers will start taking a new approach to enforce vehicle use around schools that could result in a citation sent by mail.

The agency said that it is taking action due to dangerous driving behaviors observed at schools that have not been stopped by traditional means of enforcement and after “numerous parking complaints from the community.”

Police said that citations will start being issued to vehicles parked or stopped improperly near schools where these actions are prohibited if the vehicle is recorded doing so by an officer’s body-worn camera or patrol vehicle camera.

Police said that the use of video footage from the cameras allows more alleged violators to be cited, but emphasized that the actions are not to generate money, but to improve the safety of students, families and neighborhoods.
