Major U.S. discount retailer plans to close dozens of stores, including 10 in California

Kohl’s has announced plans to close 27 underperforming stores across 15 states by April 2025 as part of a long-term growth strategy. Among the closures are 10 California locations, including stores in San Diego, Sacramento, and San Luis Obispo.

The company, which operates over 1,150 stores nationwide, emphasized its commitment to supporting employees during this transition. Workers at affected locations will receive competitive severance packages and opportunities to apply for open roles at other Kohl’s stores.

CEO Tom Kingsbury noted, “These decisions are never easy, but they’re necessary for the health and future of our business.”
