Putnam SPCA: Protect pets from extreme cold

CARMEL – Winter, summer, spring or fall, the Putnam County SPCA is kept busy investigating cases of animal abuse and cruelty.

Chief Ken Ross said while many believe patrols occur only during summer months with officers making sure animals are not left in scorching hot vehicles while their owners shop in air conditioned stores, frequent checks are also made during winter months, to protect the family’s four legged members from being overcome by arctic cold.

A case in Kent resulted in the arrest of a man who the chief described as a “heroin addict who put his dog outside while he was drugging and fell asleep. The following morning he awakened only to find the dog frozen solid.”…
