San Francisco Officials Seek Public Help to Identify Unidentified Man Found Deceased on 5th Street

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) are seeking assistance from the community to identify a man who was found deceased late last year. In a somber appeal to the public, the OCME revealed the discovery of a 50-year-old white male in an abandoned, water-filled lot at 348 5th Street in San Francisco on October 22, 2024, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Details provided indicate the man had brown hair and brown eyes and stood 5 feet and 6 inches tall, weighing 168 pounds. His attire consisted of multiple layers, including an AJAX East Bay sweatshirt and two jerseys celebrating NBA legend Kobe Bryant, marked with the numbers #24 and #8, respectively. Despite the wealth of descriptive information, the OCME has not successfully confirmed the man’s identity through their usual array of methods, including those as reliable as fingerprint checks and DNA testing, which often yield results within a day. “In this rare case, the OCME’s investigatory methods have not resulted in an identification,” stated the City and County of San Francisco

According to the OCME, the man was declared dead on the scene by the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) after they responded to a report of a body in the water.
