Columbia Rapid Shelter opens doors amid freezing temperatures

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — The City of Columbia’s Rapid Shelter has been a helping hand to those impacted by winter weather.

When the temperature drops below 40 degrees the shelter opens its doors to provide a place for people to sleep and have a hot meal.

The City of Columbia’s Emergency Winter Shelter operates two major programs: the “Rapid Shelter Columbia”, which offers a 90-day shelter for those experiencing homelessness, and the “Overflow Winter Shelter”, a temporary option for those in immediate need…
